So, what's the Day of the Dead??

Day of the Dead is a traditional Mexican holiday celebrated on November 2nd, All Saint's Day in the Catholic calendar. The purpose of the holiday is to commemorate our loved ones that have died.

I know it probably seems like a quirky holiday for those of you outside of Mexico, but it is deeply ingrained in our culture. The tradition goes back to Aztec times when they had a couple of gods of death. When the Spanish came to America they fused their own Catholic holiday with the prehispanic worship.

Despite all the skeletons in the decoration, it is not meant as a spooky holiday like Halloween is. However, the idea is the same. This time of the year is when the limit between the world of the living and the world of the dead can be crossed by the spirits, so they come back to visit the families they have left behind. It's not spooky or creepy because your loved ones are returning to be with you.

The purpose of the altars are to welcome the dead. They are usually very personalized. If you put up one in your house, it probably is dedicated to family members. Schools usually pick a prominent (dead) figure to honor with their altar, so do other public places. A popular pick is always Frida Kahlo. Traditionally, altars are composed of photos of the deceased, their favorite food, candles, religious parafernalia, cempasuchitl (special flowers), sugar skulls, papel picado, pumpkins, and pan de muerto (a special bread baked just on this holiday).

During this days, it's pretty common for people to go to the cemetery to visit their loved ones. They usually bring flowers and clean the tombs. In very little towns, people still go to the cemetery and spend all the night there, arrange shrines around tombs, bring food and celebrate there.

Where we live

We live in different parts of Mexico, but exactly where? Here we tell you a little about the place where we live.

First place we're going to talk about is Cancun, Mayari live there (Too Fashion)

El Municipio de Benito Juárez or as commonly referred to Cancun, which in Maya means "nest of snakes". It is a town of recent creation and cultural diversity, as there is a mix of people from many parts of Mexico and other countries.

Cancun is a very beautiful city with great tourist attractions and is very quiet for a living.
The city is divided into two parts and the center of Cancun's hotel zone. In the center is where most of the inhabitants.
A very popular monument is the North-South dialogue, but all is known as the source of the "Ceviche" is the lake and the Angel of Independence in Mexico City It is a rallying point for any reason to celebrate local, state or national level.

The hotel zone, as its name says is where the hotels are also shopping centers, places to dance, theater, beaches and more.

The beaches are the main attraction, as with the turquoise blue sea is impossible not to see it. There is a very popular beach in Cancun El Mirador or Playa Delfines is one of the most spectacular views the Caribbean Sea. On the eastern side, we see the ocean and the great lake west Nichupte, which is another attraction for water activities.

Mayari is TooFashion on etsy. All the photos are linked to her shop!!

What's your name and location?

My name is Mayari, I was born in Mexico City and currently living in Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico. Cancun is a beautiful place and source of much inspiration.
I studied design at the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, I specialize in graphic design, textile and industrial. My husband and I have a graphic design office, but I drew the design of jewelry for the wide variety of materials, colors, shapes and especially the great creative freedom.

What do you do for a living?
I started designing a day that I walked into a shop where they sell material, I was struck and diverse amount of materials. I took several courses to learn techniques and then turn. I do not like buying a single type material, I buy little and treatment are also unusual materials, as paramount in my pieces is not to make large-scale, for I feel that this saved their essence. Besides the person who acquires one of my pieces is sure to have something unique.

What do you do on your free time?
Sometimes I go to the beach to relax a little, I love movies and try to go as often as possible. I have a cat and I entertain a lot with her. We get to play together to not get bored.

What do you sell on Etsy?

I sell jewelry. Necklaces, earrings, bracelets, rings, key rings and book marks. I always try to make unique pieces, with lots of color and texture. The color is very important for me because it is the way I can convey something in my pieces. Also draw little attention to very important to me when designing.

How did you get started on Etsy?
It was through a friend from college. I told him what he was doing and he told me that Etsy was the perfect place for me. Thanks to the knew another chance to sell my pieces.

¿A qué te dedicas?

¿Cómo llegaste a Etsy?
